How to get a nice mp4 from an enhanced m4a
|
Use YAMB to extract the audio! |
Ive come across a couple of files recently that use
"enhanced AAC" files. One being the ricky
gervais
podcasts (classic!) and the other being the
engadget podcasts. To be honest, I dont know too much about these
enhanced files, except the normal renaming to mp4 doesnt work for the
PSP
Now, both of these offer good old mp3 file that will work just fine on
your PSP, but say you wanted to get a PSP compatible file out of
them, heres how you do it.
you just need one prog (yey!) and its
yamb 1.4
So, say you download your file from the ricky gervais site and its an m4a format, you double click to load it up in media player classic, but you get a warning about stream1, but then goes on to play the audio okay. This probably will mean it wont work on the PSP by just renaming. dont cry just yet, load up yamb 1.4 and go to the extract tab.

theres my sample from the gervais podcast, click the input button and in
the file type window put *.m4a as it doesnt list m4a files on their own,
or you could rename them to mp4 as per normal and yamb will list them.
yamb will list the tracks, we are looking for the regular m4a version,
which is stream1. Tick the "extract track id" box (1) to new MP4 file
and then click extract. you should now find a new mp4 which is just the
audio and should play just fine copied to your PSP music folder!
