Playstation Portable - audio and video

Major news! firmware 2.80 adds lots of new things for us video encoders

- 25fps support
- Use any file name you like
- Simpler video folder
- NO need for atomchanger!!!

See profiles.zip for new profiles compatible with the video folder (psp video folder must have AVC level set to 2.1 to work). Also includes HE+PS AAC audio profile for great quality low bitrate audio with megui and Nero CLI. extract to megui folder.

This is all very good news indeed. If you want to upgrade for these functions, be aware you may lose the ability to play homebrew or others such software. If you use your PSP for video, then this is a must. You can now just create a video folder on the main drive and drop your files in there. You can also name them as you like and do not need to run them through atomchanger anymore, just mux the audio and video using megui.

Welcome to my PSP site, its a collection of all the information I have found to create video for the PSP and also convert audio. This isnt going to win any pretty site awards, its more a dumping ground for all the info i collate during my messing around with the PSP.

There are several PSP conversion tools out there, and they are by far the simplest way to get video onto your PSP, but sadly they do not fully take advantage of the AVC codec.

There is another way, encode the videos yourself using various tools. Yes this isnt anywhere near as simple, but it gives you far more control and could possibly give you far more value to your memory stick. I personally believe this method gives good enough quality for a minimum file size.

One thing you will need to get to grips with is
avisynth. Have a look through the site, probably wise to start here. Its really simple once you have the hang of it, but its also extremely powerful and is used is many many converting tools.

Here is a zip file containg my megui profiles, atomchanger.exe+ini (thanks to orginal authors and qyqgpower from doom9 for the recompile with no FPS limit), my atomchanger batch file and my demo avs file.

pspfiles.zip (right click and save as, 65kb)

extract all the files to your psp folder, then put the two megui profiles (xml) into your profile folder where megui is installed, should be program files\x264\profiles\video. if it doesnt exist, create the folders yourself and the profiles will appear in megui.

I hope you find the information useful, use the menu links in the top right to navigate the pages.

EDIT: new low bitrate profile added
here. unzip to

C:\Program Files\x264\profiles\video (or wherver you install x264)

Coming soon:
