**Update** September 2007
Do you like the new blue? i do, very subtle, but makes its point. Anyway, im not here to socialise, i have bioshock to play! Im just kindly letting you know I have updated the site to include a new GUI for PSP encoding, still uses x264 so all is good. It is called RipBot264 and i have given it my blessing and added a whole damn page on how to use it as i know you guys are really stupid.
**Update** August 2007
So a quick update on some things, the blog has smaller updates (over 18 only as i swear :o )... Firstly, if your having issues with large files coming up unsupported, add this to your avs:
for 23.97 US HD jazz (like heroes mkv):
assumefps(24000,1001)
for 29.97 US Standard TV and DVD (is it for DVD??):
assumefps(30000,1001)
secondly, the PSP doesn't
really support AAC HE, its only outputs it at half frequency which is the LC
part. So it will play, but it wont sound as it should :(
Thirdly, a really nice little PSP converter has been released by a nice chap
over at doom9, heres a link to his post and how you can download all the bits
your need.

**Update ** June 2007
So finally i get around to putting up something to do with the
ghosting on the PSP screen! Its not perfect, but try it and see what you think.
Just add this to your avisynth script:
Tweak(sat=1.4, bright=19, cont=1.15)
This will make the dark areas less dark, which is
the problem, the LCD cant go from dark to light quick enough... Thanks to JCB
over at the pspvideo9
forum (good software!)
**Update ** May 2007
With the recent updates, the PSP has some new
settings, such as we can now use more b-frames and reference frames. I'm
assuming this is just to bring it more inline with PS3 encoding. Also, the
480x272 encodes wont fill your screen unless you add the custom command line
--sar 1:1 which on the second tab of the x264 config. Im including a new profile
that *should* work on both the PS3 and PSP (and has the --sar 1:1 added), although i have no PS3 to test it
with :P So unless someone wants to give me one (cheers!), im not 100% sure. If
any PS3 owning flea wants to get in touch to test some settings, that would be
very sweet and kind of them :D Ill shut up, heres the darn profile...

megui profiles/video folder )
**Update** April 2007
Added a page on creating thumbnails for 3.30
**Update** March 2007.
Firmware 3.30 adds new resolutions. We can now encode to 480x272, 352X480 and
720x480. To encode at 720, you need to change the x264 level to 3.0. Otherwise,
just change the size in your AVS script and upload to the video folder. Change
the x264 sar to 1:1 for 480x272 to expand to fill the screen.
*Big news for dual core CPU
owners*
see the top of the video
page for more
Welcome to the site, its been redone since so much is out of date on the old
site. but i have kept it archived here if you still need to access it for non
2.80 firmware users. The site focuses on using free tools to get video
onto your PSP, such as x264 (h.264 codec), MeGUI and the free Nero CLI.
Hopefully, following these basic guides you will soon be converting your videos
to watch on the PSP in no time at all.
To navigate the site, use the menus at the top of the
page.
Anyway, this site shows you how to convert your own DVD's and existing video
files to play on the PSP. I have also included a few sections on audio for
playing your music on your PSP. The PSP is a fantastic portable video device and
with memory sticks coming down in price, you can now easily convert your
existing tv shows and movies to your PSP to watch in the car or on the plane.
Hopefully your now running the latest firmware (2.80 currently) as this makes
the video users life so much easier. No longer do we need to use atomchanger,
use specific formatted file names and now we can put the video in a simpler
VIDEO folder. Also, all frame rates are supported, 23.97, 29.97, 30 and also now
25 for us PAL users. Also, audio is a lot less strict and we can now use 44khz
AAC in either LC or HE which is great if your going for smaller file size.
But, the AVC level cannot exceed 2.1 so any previous videos made with
unrestricted AVC level will not work in the new folder, but they will be fine in
the old one still (i think!). Also, as yet, thumbnails will not work in the
VIDEO folder.
A Quick break down of tools needed:
Avisynth
MeGUI (auto update version will
download all you need - except Nero till permission given)
Nero CLI AAC encoder to use with MeGUI or on its own. put in MeGUI folder
and make sure tool-settings- program paths point to the right file if your going
to use with MeGUI.
As usual, the PSP cannot handle MP4 video files created
using more than one thread, so make sure tools-setting-automatically set number
of threads is unticked and only 1 thread is selected in the x264 config. This is
a pain for us dual core CPU owners, but the PSP just will not play the file,
one you have all that installed and working, heres the
breakdown of what to do next
1. Encode video using x264 and MeGUI
2. Encode audio using Nero CLI and MeGUI (or any other tool)
3. Mux into .mp4 using MeGUI
4. create a VIDEO folder on your psp and drop in the file!
5. test and all should work!! yey finally sony...
I have included my profiles, both audio and video here
